WHAT IS CANA?  College Area Neighborhood Alliance

The College Area Neighborhood Alliance is a comprised of residents within the boundaries of McHenry Avenue, Tully Road, Orangeburg Avenue, and Needham Street in Modesto, CA. This comprises roughly 2100 households.

Neighborhoods all over Modesto are forming neighborhood alliances for safety, graffiti, trees, and many other neighborhood concerns. An e-newsletter announces events and committee meetings. Any resident can attend meetings and participate on a volunteer basis. This format builds a communication among residents, city officials, and the Modesto Police Department.


WHAT IS THE PRIVATE SECURITY PATROL IN THE CANA AREA?

CURRENT COVERAGE IS 8 HOURS/DAY, 7 DAYS/WEEK New subscribers mean more coverage. The goal is to have 600 subscribers for 24/7 coverage. Help support crime prevention in your neighborhood.

Rank officers collaborate with the MPD to provide support and extra patrol for residents within the CANA boundaries. The monthly fee is $25 for each household. The patrol vehicle uses a GPS with each subscriber's address to patrol those residences. Subscribers also receive vacation checks, alarm responses, and other additional services. WHAT ARE NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH GROUPS IN THE CANA AREA?

A CITYWIDE & NATIONAL CRIME PREVENTION PROGRAM

These are small groups of neighbors coming together within CANA that are organized through the Crime Prevention Unit of the Modesto Police Department. An interested resident or two become captain/s and organize, maintain, and distribute a list with contact information to those who participate in the neighborhood watch. The groups build a spirit of community that enhances their safety by watching out for each other and their property. WHAT IS CRIMEMAPPING.COM?

A CITYWIDE CRIME TRACKING SYSTEM

The MPD has instated a crime-tracking program with www.crimemapping.com. This free website shows daily crime activity in your neighborhood. Just enter your address to check on the police activity near your home. For a daily crime report to be e-mailed to you, select “receive crime alerts.” Very informative!
